Introduction to Titas Upazila

Upazila Background: Titas is a newly formed upazila. This upazila was formed in 2004 by cutting 9 unions in the northern part of Gomti river in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla district. The Gauripur-Homna road from the Dhaka-Chittagong highway divides Titas upazila into east and west. From Dhaka or Comilla via Gauripur bus station on the Gauripur-Homna road at a distance of 6 km, you can see the Titas Upazila Complex, which is unique in nature in a breathtaking natural environment. Geographical location of Titas upazila is 56 km from Comilla Sadar and 55 km from the capital Dhaka.

Naming: The movement for the establishment of the present Titas Upazila, known as a neglected and underdeveloped town of Daudkandi Upazila, started almost two decades ago. Initially, demands were raised for the establishment of "Pir Shahbaz Nagar" police station and later for the upazila, but in the final stage, the former minister and MP Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain proposed the name 'Titus'. The name of this upazila has been changed to "Titas Upazila" after the name of Titas, which flows through the chests of the five unions of this upazila.

Creation of the Upazila: At the Nikar meeting held on 22 February 2004, it was decided to form a separate administrative unit called "Titas Upazila" by cutting 9 unions in Daudkandi Upazila of Comilla District. Titas Upazila was declared as a full-fledged upazila in a circular issued by the Local Government Department under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on March 30 of the same year and was published in additional issues in the Bangladesh Gazette on April 4, 2004.

Geographical Location: Titas Upazila is located at the north-western end of Comilla district at 23 degrees 40 minutes east longitude. The Kathalia river flows through the southern and eastern sides of the upazila.

It is bounded by homna on the north, daudkandi on the south, muradnagar on the east and meghna upazila on the west.
